Caroline Kingsbury turns back time at Music Hall of Williamsburg

There are openers—and then there’s Caroline Kingsbury. At Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, she turned back time to the Eighties with a set that landed somewhere between glam rock and a VHS workout video. A welcome escape from a world that feels like it’s burning lately, especially when it comes to trans rights.

Caroline’s sound blends ‘80s prom ballad drama with the energy of a rebellious road trip, yet it’s still entirely her own. It’s the kind of music that makes the ordinary feel cinematic, like the world’s about to shift in some beautiful, messy way—à la Stranger Things, but queerer and louder.

Mid-set, Caroline raised a trans flag above her head, under blue and pink lights that hit just right. In a month when trans rights are under attack across the country, it meant everything. The energy in the room shifted. You could feel it in the crowd. Phones went up. Hands went over hearts. Some people cried. The message was clear: you’re safe here.

And as the final notes rang out, Caroline left the stage and stepped into the crowd, singing shoulder to shoulder with her fans. A reminder that this music, this moment, this space? It’s for all of us.
