Internet Tears Lean Into Love and Lo-Fi Nostalgia on New Single “Always Fool Around”
Hanging at the mall with our friends, maybe catching a skate session — and if you’re lucky, running into your crush? Connecticut band Internet Tears just bottled that exact feeling into their new single “Always Fool Around,” out now via Black Barrel Records. The track leans into the band’s signature flavor of lo-fi romance and throwback charm. It doesn’t try too hard — it just invites you in, throws an arm around your shoulder, and dares you not to smile.
And the music video? A full send into ‘90s mall culture. Shot at the Trumbull Mall and AJJ Memorial Skate Park in Milford, it’s a tribute to the skate-and-shop era with not-so-subtle nods to the cult classic, Mallrats. It’s a call back to a simpler time — before $700 iPhones, social media doom-scrolling, and the absurd reality of swiping through dating apps to meet the love of your life.
Internet Tears has been steadily gaining ground as a local indie-pop favorite, building on their momentum throughout 2024. They’ve played a string of Northeast shows, including a standout opening slot for Billboard #1 charting pop artist Madelline at Park City Music Hall this past December (photos by Ryan Reid).
“‘Always Fool Around’ is about having a good time with someone you love. Sometimes life has its ups and downs, but dealing with the anxiety, stress and negativity life naturally brings just becomes a bit easier when you have that person you rely on and when you’re with the people who comfort you the most.””

“Always Fool Around” might sound like a lighthearted detour, but beneath the bright guitar lines and mall-punk visuals, there’s a real pulse. That’s where Internet Tears shines — turning nostalgia into something that doesn’t just look back, but makes you feel something. Like spotting your crush across the food court and hoping they look your way!
