New drop from UK’s Acres: “Staring at the Sun” video out now

UK post-hardcore outfit, Acres, just gave fans a taste of their new single “Staring at the Sun.” The live-style performance video leans into the band’s signature quiet-loud dynamic—atmospheric and crushing all at once (Keep scrolling to stream the video right here!)

Frontman Ben Lumber calls it “a classic miserable Acres love song,” and says it’s one of a few tracks on the upcoming album The Host that is a nod to their earlier sound. While it’s a callback to their roots, it is a powerful tease of what’s ahead. The Host drops May 2 on Solid State Records, it’s shaping up to be Acres’ boldest statement yet.

The band began recording the album in October 2024, hopping the pond to record the album with Landon Tewers of The Plot in You, was behind the board as producer. The musicians stayed at his Michigan studio and pushed their sound further than ever—incorporating deeper drop tunings, new textures and a fresh creative perspective.

This record is a bold step in a new direction. Working with Landon Tewers changed everything. He brought a fresh perspective that pushed us into new sonic territory.

That creative chemistry was on full display earlier this month when RØKKR caught Tewers and Lumber onstage together at Webster Hall, joining forces during The Plot In You’s set for a live performance of “Forgotten.” It was a standout moment in a night that also featured Acres, Boundaries, and Holding Absence. Acres will remain on tour with The Devil Wears Prada this spring and also appear at select Beartooth shows.
