Amon Amarth’s latest album, “The Allfather Awakens” arrived on October 2, via Metal Blade Records. The Swedish Viking metal powerhouse has put together a 10-song epic that once again draws inspiration from Norse mythology, this time focusing most of the songs around the all-father, Oden.
The new album also features the band's first acoustic track, “Upphaf”, a surprising feat for a band with more than 30 years of history. The previously released singles “Gjallarhorn”, “Eight Legs of Thunder”, and “We Rule The Waves” have already quickly become fan favorites, with the latter destined to become a longtime set staple that gets the crowd rowing and chanting along for years to come.
The newest album was written and recorded using a different approach than normal, with recording taking place across two different sessions months apart. Most of the record was written while the band was on tour, rather than written in the months between touring. The writing and recording process allowed the band to focus intensely on each track, resulting in an album full of songs where each track could be its own standout single.
