With their new single “Trillions”, DIIV finds the perfect balance to enter the mainstream, hand in hand with one of the most prominent producers of this movement in the last decade, A.G. Cook. And although it sounds a bit different from the band's discography, we understand the satire of this single as a point of rediscovery.
Ahead of the release of ZIRP! on October 30th, DIIV seeks to explore new territories after making a name for themselves in shoegaze and grunge, not only to grow, but to flourish in a music industry that feels increasingly artificial, blending with everything they have already built.
With a video that showcases the luxuries a band can achieve through the music algorithm in today's world, and the eccentric number of plays one can obtain, the video for ‘Trillions’ sarcastically embraces this world that many aspire to.
'Trillions' is not only a breath of fresh air for DIIV and their fans, it's a way to understand current music and why combining styles can be a new opportunity for self-discovery. Previously, with 'The Fountain' and 'Kid', we already had a clearer idea of A.G. Cook's influence on this new material, with more synthesized and cleaner sounds without losing the raw essence that represents DIIV, but it's not until this latest single that we see the band exploring pop in their own way.
