Divorce closes out first U.S. headlining tour with an intimate night in Boston

Straight out of Nottingham in the United Kingdom, Divorce has become a sensation in Europe. Forming in 2021, these indie darlings have risen in the charts in the United Kingdom, garnering praise and acclaim, with even Elton John being a fan and featuring them on his podcast “Rocket Hour.”

The band’s indie-rock/folk-infused sound caught the attention of Marcus Mumford, who collaborated with them on a smash hit in Europe, which led to Divorce joining Mumford and Sons on tour.  After climbing the ranks in the U.K., Divorce set their eyes on a new target, jumping across the pond for their first headlining tour of North America.

Divorce crossed the United States, hitting some of the most iconic venues that America (and Canada) had to offer, before ending their tour at The Rockwell, an iconic and intimate venue in Boston, Massachusetts. Okay, technically in Somerville, but it’s a suburb of Boston!

Charged with the emotions of the end of a tour, their first time in Boston, and an adoring crowd, Divorce closed out their first time in New England with an electric set on a chilly Easter evening.

WINKLER

Joining them for the night was local Boston band, Winkler, a five piece indie powerhouse.  Sporting big white fluffy bunny ears, Winkler provided an energetic set to the growing audience.  With music that could have been made in the Sixties, and a lead vocalist reminiscent of Lord Huron, the more Winkler played, the more the audience moved out of their seats and onto the dance floor, all without the band having to even ask.

DIVORCE

While Winkler drew fans in, Divorce gave fans a reason to stay.  The four piece band had just released their first full length album last year, playing almost the entire album in full throughout the night.  With the band alternating vocals, each song felt fresh and different, bringing fans in closer and renewing their dance moves for each song.

While this tour was to help celebrate the release of Divorce’s first album, Drive to Goldhammer, with their American audiences, Divorce couldn’t help but tease the future.  Playing a handful of new songs mixed into the set, Divorce used the moments in between to talk to the fans about their experiences making their first album and how they are gearing up for an exciting year coming up.

In the middle of the set, Divorce slowed down the show, doing an intimate cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s “America”.  The band talked about their own road trip across the States and what America looked like to them as guests visiting this country.  While they were not blind to atrocities being committed in this country currently, giving a “F*ck Trump” and a “Free Palenstine” (which was met with thunderous applause), the band choose to focus more on their experiences with the kind, gracious people they met across the country.

Divorce gave fans a beautifully intimate night with their last show of North America.  Giving promises of new music, new experiences, and a promise to return, Divorce is set to take the states by storm in their own style of the British invasion.
