DONT YOU DARE (“DYD”) are a two-piece rock band from Sacramento, California that blend nu-metal and metalcore into something emotionally-charged and slightly confrontational.
And with the release of their latest music video, Noah Duarte (vocals) and Matt English (guitar) carried this sound into “BLACK & BLUE”, with a nod to the early stylings of nu-metal legends like Linkin Park and Korn.
“‘BLACK & BLUE’ is about feeling used and drained by someone you love. It’s about finally accepting that feeling, and how sadness can slowly turn to anger. It was a hard song to write, but a beautiful experience seeing those raw, haunting emotions come to life.”
Stay put, you can watch the video right here:
RØKKR was able to connect Mike Matsui, the videographer and director behind the “BLACK & BLUE” music video to talk about how the project came together. Matsui described the DYD’s presence on set:
“DONT YOU DARE is a force to be reckoned with. BLACK & BLUE is the second music video we have shot together and I never have a problem channeling their energy, they just send it.”
Matusi went on to describe his creative relationship with Dont You Dare:
“I love that they trust my vision for their visual representation and it is very much a collaborative effort. For example, it was [Duarte’s] idea to act like the subway was tipping over. Easy elements like that helped us sell the idea the subway was flying off the rails.”
A well-established videographer in the heavy music scene, Matsui has worked with bands like Soley Veil, Jamie’s Elsewhere, and Of Mice & Men. So when he says DYD is a band to keep your eye one, RØKKR listens.
You can see DYD live on the following dates next month:
2/6 — Brick by Brick — San Diego, CA (With Jamie's Elsewhere)
2/7 — The Parish Room House of Blues — Anaheim, CA (With Jamie's Elsewhere)
Stay tuned, the momentum is building for DYD and you can expect more from the band soon!
