MUNA Are Mid-Tour and Building Toward Something Special on the Dancing On The Wall Run
If you haven't been paying attention to MUNA this fall, now is the time to catch up.
The Los Angeles trio are deep into their North American headline tour behind Dancing On The Wall, their fourth studio album released in May via Dead Oceans, and the momentum has been climbing with every stop. Boston is on the way to selling out both dates. Chicago's Salt Shed is sold out. Toronto's Queen Elizabeth Theatre is sold out. St. Paul's Palace Theatre is sold out. The demand is real and it has been real for a while now.
Dancing On The Wall, produced entirely by the band's own Naomi McPherson, is the record that has made all of this possible. Thirteen tracks of dance pop with post-punk edges and the emotional lyricism that has always separated MUNA from their peers. Billboard called them “a once-in-a-generation queer band." Pitchfork praised the album for its “emotional risk and the power of collective release." SPIN called it “their most cohesive, streamlined release yet." The record finds MUNA transforming anxiety, desire, political tension, and the heat of Los Angeles life into something euphoric. It explores the jarring tension between dark subject matter and exhilarating production that has always been part of their signature sound, and Dancing On The Wall is the fullest expression of it yet.
This weekend MUNA make their All Things Go Festival appearances. Saturday in Washington DC and Sunday in Queens, New York, before the tour continues through Boston, Columbus, Toronto, Detroit, Chicago, and beyond, wrapping the North American leg at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado on October 21st. Hemlocke Springs supports throughout.
The UK and European leg follows in November, including two nights at London's Eventim Apollo, a second date added due to demand, before wrapping in Berlin on November 27th.
