Witnessing a Band Ascend: Porch Light’s Sold-Out Austin Show
Just two years ago, Minneapolis indie rock band Porch Light were playing shows on the porch of guitarist Zac Fogarty’s house and posting the videos on TikTok. The sessions went viral, and the band has been ascending at record speed since. They have already played big festivals like Lollapalooza and Shaky Knees and are now selling out venues on their headlining Hush tour.
On Wednesday, one of those sold-out shows took place at Brushy Street Commons in downtown Austin. The venue has two levels and no barricade, so fans stand right in front of the stage, which was perfect for the performance that followed.
When vocalist Jackie Uhas took the stage, she connected with the crowd immediately, singing directly to audience members at times and connecting on a raw, sometimes quite vulnerable level. People often compare them to Paramore, and while their styles differ, they do share stunning vocals, 2000s indie rock vibes, and an electric stage presence.
They opened with “Arctic,” the first track on their new album Hush, and played nearly every song from their catalog. Uhas shared that many songs were inspired by an ex, and she brought all those feelings—anger, fear, grief, and strength—to her performance.
The two-song encore was the highlight: the viral 2025 hit “Oxygen” and the newly released scream anthem “Under.” It was the kind of show that makes you feel lucky to have seen them up close on a smaller stage, because it’s only a matter of time before they play arenas.
With Austin as one of the first stops on their tour, there are still plenty of chances to catch them live. Full list of remaining dates below and on their website!
