Radiohead transform ‘Kid A Mnesia’ into a full-scale installation

Radiohead fans have been waiting with bated breath for April 10, ever since the band confirmed the creation of a Motion Picture House featuring KID A MNESIA. Motion Picture House is a large-scale 75-minute audiovisual installation featuring a film comprised of the artwork created during the making of Radiohead’s albums Kid A and Amnesiac by Thom Yorke and Stanley Donwood.

Featuring a custom-built 6-point surround system, this experience will be set to a soundtrack derived from the original multitracks. Motion Picture House will also host additional galleries featuring full-scale artwork by Yorke and Donwood. In Thom Yorke’s words, KID A MNESIA features a narrative “in which a Monster is trapped in a derelict museum of the lost and forgotten.”

This idea was set to come to life in 2021 as an exhibition directed by Sean Evans, but pandemic restrictions led Epic Games to transport the project into a virtual world. But this weekend, KID A MNESIA has been constructed into a physical, immersive experience— an opportunity for audiences to be completely enveloped in the worlds of Kid A and Amnesiac to catch a detailed glimpse into the creative minds behind the albums

This multi-sensory experience is set to make its debut at Coachella’s brand new bunker, a 17,000 square foot underground space created specifically to immerse audiences in the warping, eerie visuals and sounds of KID A MNESIA. After this weekend, the experience is scheduled to take a brief North American tour, appearing in a handful of cities. Full dates are below!
