The Devil Wears Prada headline a stacked night at Ace of Spades in Sacramento

You get into the heart of Sacramento with some friends, you feel the heat blasting through your car and the A/C is working overtime. You feel like the car is on fire, and as soon as you crack the door you feel that humid air rush in like you just stepped into a steamy shower. You and your friends walk to the line and wait patiently for the doors to open.

I PROMISED THE WORLD

After some Steely Dan played out over the PA, you watch five young men take the stage. You expect pop-punk but instead you get metal. You get heavy vocals, heavy riffs, harsh clean vocals, a keyboardist who jams so hard the keyboard bounces, and a drummer who's precise.

The audio within the Ace Of Spades in Sacramento was pushed to the limits. The set was short but so enjoyable. I Promised The World, promised the fans a show and did what might be the hardest thing in live music to do — get a cold crowd ramped up to 100.

SPLIT CHAIN

Split Chain, a rock band from Bristol, UK, takes the stage with old VCRs and analog TVs. The band wears sweatshirts, long hair, jeans and sweats, with tennis shoes. They played their hearts out, getting fans to sing their choruses and started the first wall of death of the night. The band was so grateful for the support that they even mentioned for people to come to the merch booth so they could meet the supporters of their tour.

FOUR YEARS STRONG
Four Years Strong goes on shortly after Split Chain. They are well loved and you overhear many attendees talking about their excitement to see them.

They take the stage and play through their set, as they get to Seventeen a fan goes down in the pit. The show stops mid song and you hear security yelling to make a path to the fan. The energy slams to a stop and the staff takes the fan out of the pit and Dan O’Connor speaks. He said “We only have so much time so we can play one more song…” the fans are bummed but he followed it up with “Turn that energy back up” and they played their hit Daddy Of Mine. The crowd was stoked to have another song to enjoy.

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA

The curtains covering the drums and synthesizer fall, the audio for “The Same Place” plays out and you just feel an overwhelming amount of emotion when you hear:

“I used to believe that if I got everything I wanted // Maybe then, I'd finally be happy // But all of that was just a dream and now, It's over”

The Devil Wears Prada slowly build into playing “Where The Flowers Never Grow” which the crowd screams. Crowd surfers flood over the barricade and security gets their work in.

Drums and Synthesisers sit on wooden elevated platforms with a silver screen in between them. You watch as the band plays a little bit of everything and as they wrap up their 20-song setlist you find yourself tired, excited, wowed.

FINAL THOUGHTS

This was my first time seeing any of these bands and I have to say, I would absolutely relive this moment if I could find another show closer to my area. I noticed I got lost in the lyrics, especially for “Ritual,” which has only happened at one other show, Sleep Token’s Even In Arcadia Tour.

Four Years Strong is a band that I would absolutely see again and their music has been on repeat since departing the show. The energy they have as a band and individually on stage is infectious and it carries through their tracks.

If you get the chance to catch these bands before the tour ends or on another card, it's worth it. You can feel the importance of their message in their show, performance, and presence. I would hands down say if you are looking for your next show, go to The Devil Wears Prada.
