The Garden, the experimental punk duo of twin brothers Wyatt and Fletcher Shears, released Bootleg, their 8th album, via Epitaph Records last Friday, July 10.
Recorded in Los Angeles and produced by Wyatt and Fletcher, the 14-track album showcases The Garden’s “Vada Vada” genre, an anti-genre that rejects musical boundaries and allows experimentation without guidelines. Their sound has been compared to Machine Girl and Show Me the Body, though some songs on Bootleg lean more toward indie pop, classic punk, and math rock.
Each of the 14 songs differs from the last, with unpredictable shifts often occurring within the tracks. Standouts include the clangy drum and bass track “A 50’s Guy's Eyes”, the off-kilter punk “Duck and Cover” and the poppy earworm “The Kockroach”. Vinyl and CD versions of Bootleg will be available for pre-order soon with a shelf date of October 23.
