Catbite open tour with explosive show at Space Ballroom

Catbite kicked off their Doom Garden Tour at the Space Ballroom with an energy that immediately had the crowd on their feet. From the opening note to the final chord, the room was a non-stop dance party!

This was my first time seeing Catbite even though I’ve known them for a year and all I can say is “Wow!” Frontwoman Brittany Luna commanded the stage with boundless energy, her vocals cutting through the room with precision and fire. She lit up the stage with unshakable energy, dancing and belting every lyric like it was her last. Tim Hildebrand’s sharp guitar riffs and Kayleigh Malloy’s driving keys gave the songs their punch, while Chris Pires on drums and Ben Parry on bass locked in a groove so tight it kept the crowd moving without pause.

They opened with “Die in Denver” which was a perfect tune to set the electric tone of the set. The energy the band had was unbelievable, along with Britt’s incredible stage presence. Britt was singing with the crowd and even came down into the pit to sing and dance with everyone.

In late March, Catbite came out with “Tired of Talk” which featured Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy. Even though Stump did not join them on stage for this one, they made sure to fill his shoes. I’ve got quite the soft spot for anything Fall Out Boy-adjacent and was super excited to hear this one live.

Some stand out songs on their set included “Bad Influence,” “Call Your Bluff,” “Deteriorate” and they ended with “Excuse Me Miss.” I was so engulfed in the energy of the band I didn’t even notice Britt jumping off stage and coming right next to me. The energy in the room was such a force that even she had to come and experience it.

The Doom Garden Tour takes them to the Midwest and then down the East Coast ending in Millersville, Pennsylvania. If you didn’t catch them this time around, there are plenty of opportunities. They are based in Philly and are also playing September 27 at Asbury Park with The Menzingers — who will also knock your socks off!

Dani has been photographing multiple genre shows but gravitates towards the ska and pop punk club shows. She’s been screaming lyrics in the photo pit for 7 years. She’s covered artists like New Kids on the Block, Big Time Rush & is frequently found with The Interrupters. she’s still holding out hope to shoot her bucket list band- Fall Out Boy. Ska and pop punk are her happy place, and her work brings magical moments to life in both photos and words. The barricade at a show isn’t close enough already, she’s gotta be in the photo pit!
