Basement is back with another new track off their upcoming album WIRED, out May 8 on Run For Cover Records. “The Way I Feel” leans heavily into a raw and unpolished production that has become the defining sound of the new record.

Vocalist Andrew Fisher says:

“‘The Way I Feel’ is about standing on the edge of a really important decision, right before you make it. Constantly questioning whether you have the courage to stand up for yourself and fight your side, while at the same time begging for forgiveness and acknowledgement. My tongue is in my cheek quite a lot in this song — you need to decide when I’m saying what I mean or not.I love the simplicity of this song and I love that the intro is the same audio sample that Al made on his loop pedal. I knew from the first time he sent that audio file that this would be a song.”

Basement set out to make WIRED their boldest and most decisive album yet, something intentionally polarizing and fully realized. The album comes after a turbulent history: early success, a breakup in 2012, a strong comeback in 2014, and later frustration with major label control following 2018's Beside Myself.

During their COVID-era hiatus, each member questioned whether the band should even continue as they spent time pursuing their own creative outlets. It was a period of serious existential reflection for the guys in Basement, and at one point, Alex Henery considered stepping away from the band altogether before Fisher intervened, knowing that everyone in Basement needed the band to persevere.

“Alex saying that he was ready to cut the cord was what I needed to be like ‘Nope, we cannot do that,’” Fisher says.

WIRED comes at a time of renewed interest in the band from a whole new generation of fans, as “Covet” off of 2012’s Colourmekindness became a viral TikTok sensation, a full 12 years after its initial release.

Alongside the release of the new album, Basement will be hitting the road this summer throughout Europe. North America tour dates will be announced at a later date.

Check their website for the full list of Europe shows, kicking off their tour with an appearance Rock Am Ring on June 5.
