Korn’s Jonathan Davis petwear brand makes tails wag with a Brooklyn pop up event

The setting was Bushwick Bark, an unsuspecting establishment settled neatly on the middle of Irving ave in Bushwick. Inside, the lime-colored walls were swallowed by an expansion of dog treats, animal beds, leashes, bones and bully sticks—multitudes of pet paraphernalia! However, on Friday, August 29, the main attraction was not the products in the shop, but out in the backyard where a collaborative dog adoption pop up event was in full swing.

The event could technically be attributed to the notorious metal band, Korn, though to be more specific, a main sponsor was Freak on a Leash, the petwear brand started by frontman, Jonathan Davis. The brand supplied spike-studded leashes and collars which were available to purchase in multiple colors, thanks to arecent collaboration with fashion designer and stylist, Ashton Michael. Badass Animal Rescue provided the animals, bringing in a handful of dogs who were looking for their forever home. The energy was all wagging tails as drinks were poured and attendants mingled with both dogs and owners.

The event itself spanned over four hours, between 4 and 8 PM and took place entirely on the property of Bushwick Bark. Organizers performed multiple raffles throughout the night, with prizes including Bushwick Bark products and even exclusive Freak on a Leash merch. Both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages were provided by sponsors as attendees settled into different nooks around the yard, allowing the dogs to sniff and interact with each other and the people who came.

While the event itself was exciting and endearing (heavy metal and cute dogs are always a yes in my book!), it was the individuals who showed up which made it so special. Management and coordinators from each respective organization interacted with a warmness which extended outwardly into the backyard space. Friends showed up to support the event, bringing their own pups with them. One attendant explained how she became acquainted with Badass Animal Rescue after meeting a foster dog and his foster mom at the nearby Maria Hernandez dog park. They easily became close friends, as did their dogs, and supported each other outside of the park bounds.

Freak on a Leash was started in 2022, and aptly named after one of Korn’s most popular hit singles. The brand sells collars, leashes, harnesses, toys, pet clothing and accessories.

Badass Animal Rescue was founded in 2011 with the mission of saving dogs from high-kill animal shelters across the rural American South, as well as the U.S. Virgin Islands. Bushwick Bark is a female-owned franchise which boasts three locations across Brooklyn. The organization strives to bring awareness to animal rightsand often hosts adoption and fundraising events.
