Mike D Releases new single “Crypto” and Expands US Tour Dates

Michael "Mike D" Diamond of the Beastie Boys announced new North American dates with his touring band, Mike D 5D.
The tour supports his debut solo album, Thank You, coming out August 28. This is the first full album from a Beastie Boys member since the group disbanded in 2012 following the death of Adam “MCA" Yauch.
Thank You began as a series of experimental recording sessions at Mike’s home studio. The sessions began with Mike’s sons Skyler and Davis. They expanded to include Carter Lang, Jared Solomon, Ging, Jason Lader, Eddie Ruscha, Tyran Donaldson, and more joining in across a variety of locations.
Mike D 5D has also released a fourth song from Thank You called “Crypto.” It’s a tinny, fuzzy rap track that speeds up into a dance club finish.
“Crypto” follows the previously released psychedelic “True Colors", the spacy hip hop track “What We Got”, and the electronic club song “Switch Up”. All have a distinct lo-fi Beastie Boys vibe with samples and in-your-face rap lyrics – but have club and electronic influences with unexpected tempo changes and styles.
“It’s been so much fun making this music with people I love and I have grown to really appreciate in our collaboration. And I just hope it’s fun for others and not overly serious, because let’s be real, I’m releasing this music into a very strange and dark and power-fixated world that really devalues art and feelings and compassion and empathy and equality.”
Thank You releases on August 28, just two days before the North American tour starts on August 30 with sold-out shows in Boston, Washington, DC, and Asheville. The tour will also visit cities on both coasts, including a stop at the Portola Music Festival at Pier 80 in San Francisco.
