After more than four decades together, cult rock band The Church return with two emotional, euphoric new singles, “Sky and Hill” and “Forever,” taken from their upcoming album Lacuna, due out October 30.
“Sky and Hill” deals with forgiveness in personal relationships, set to a more organic melody that brings out the band’s cowboy side. On “Forever,” frontman Steve Kilbey plays with the group’s most natural sound, full of rawness, loneliness and riffs that land as a breath of fresh air for longtime fans and newcomers alike.
With these final singles ahead of Lacuna’s full release, it’s clear why a band like The Church still matters today. They helped lay the foundations of post-punk and alternative rock, and they stay current by constantly exploring new sounds, easily passing for a new band you stumbled onto in a streaming playlist that quickly becomes your new favorite.
Lacuna will be released digitally October 30 and physically on November 20 via Cooking Vinyl (pre-order link). Sometimes the best things come with time, and with the release of Lacuna, The Church’s future has never looked brighter.
