Winona Fighter have announced their second album, Brutal & Extremely Underrated, arriving January 22, 2027, via Rise Records. Along with the announcement, the Nashville punk trio released “LEECH,” the album’s second single, accompanied by a striking music video directed by Hannah Hall.
“LEECH” delivers the combination of melody and punk that fans have come to love from Winona Fighter, but with a ferocity and power that pushes their sound further than their 2025 debut, My Apologies to the Chef. The song tackles themes of self-awareness and vulnerability, pairing its grungy edge with an introspective look at how we see ourselves.
“LEECH” follows “BOMBS AWAY,” the first single released from the upcoming album earlier this year. Where songs on the band’s debut touched on political themes, “BOMBS AWAY” takes a more direct and confrontational approach, leaving little room for interpretation.
The Nashville trio, comprised of frontwoman Coco Kinnon, guitarist Dan Fuson, and bassist Austin Luther, recorded the album at Luther’s home studio, continuing the DIY approach that shaped their debut. According to the band, the new record reflects a period of growth and increased confidence as they work to evolve their sound while maintaining the balance of melody and hard-hitting punk that defines Winona Fighter.

The album’s title comes from a line in its sixth track, “SELF AFFIRMATIONS,” which explores Kinnon’s relationship with her own self-image and how she believes others perceive her. Across the record, the band addresses themes ranging from insecurity and vulnerability to distrust of the government, with a broader focus on the world around them. The album artwork was created by self-taught artist Glen Martin Taylor, whose work explores transformation and healing while maintaining the DIY spirit that runs through the band’s music.
